Alignment and it's relationship with how you aim

Alignment is often overlooked when a golfer is trying to problem solve a poor shot. If you become very good at aligning your golf club to the target, you will have an easier time creating a repeatable swing. If a shot is missed to the right, or left of the target, always ask yourself if you aligned there first, before blaming your swing for the mistake.

Throw down an alignment stick, or even just reference the edge of the mat the next time you are practicing. If you feel like you are aligning left or right of where you know the alignment stick is pointing, then you are more than likely to miss align on the golf course.

The Golf Grip

Whether you're an avid golfer or just starting out, having a solid grip (connection to the golf club) is one of the keys to having success on the golf course.

Styles: whichever style you use, make sure your hands are together. You should not see any of the club grip between your fingers, or between your hands.

Thumbs: having a "short thumb" is when your thumb is touching the index finger bottom knuckle. This helps to promote a consistent grip for every swing. It also helps with stability at the top of the golf swing.

Salimah Mussani joins Team Canada's Coaching Staff

Congratulations!
We would like to take this time to congratulate Salimah Mussani on her recent appointment as the Assistant Coach to Team Canada and will be looking after the Ladies’ Elite Amateur Team and the Ladies’ Young Pro Squad. These travel commitments will allow her to support players at major amateur events, professional tour events, while at their various Universities across the US and most thrillingly – The Olympics.
While Salimah will be getting comfortable with her new role this summer, she will still be involved with Golf Burnaby’s instructional programming and is excited to teach all levels of players at our Riverway Golf facility.

The importance of layering your cloths in cooler weather

The key to golfing in the Off Season is layering your clothes.

About every 5 degrees celsius that the temperature drops, the golf ball will travel around 2 yards less. That could mean a full club difference from the beautiful 30 degree summer we had, to a 5 degree round of golf in November. Wearing the right clothing during the cold months can keep that drop in ball speed to one club by using these tips for layering up.

How far do you hit your Driver and 5 Iron?

How far do you hit your Driver and 5 Iron?

The discussion about how far the golf ball travels has been strong for quite some time now. The golf ball, and equipment advancements have made the game more enjoyable for many, but has it influenced what tee boxes you play? For some the thought of playing anything other than the back tee boxesis out of the question, and for others they only feel comfortable playing the most forward tees on the golf course. So what is the right tee box to play?

How an old wedge can be costing you strokes on the Golf Course

How an old wedge can be costing you strokes.

Each year brands come out with the latest and greatest technology for their woods and irons to help you hit the ball further and make the face more forgiving than the previous year’s model. Rarely does a company come out with a test that compares its new product, to their own product after being used for a season. Titleist has done just that with their wedges, and it shows how much a wedge actually degrades in performance over different ranges of use. Check out this refreshing video from Titleist to see the difference between the same club after 125 rounds, 75 rounds, and brand new:

2020 Fall and Winter Golf Course Conditioning Preparation

Every year, in preparation for the fall and winter months, Golf Burnaby goes through an extensive maintenance program to keep all our golf courses the driest in the lower mainland. With golfers in mind, Golf Burnaby’s putting green maintenance programs occur in early October to ensure the best playing conditions through all of September (one of the best golfing months of the year).

Putting greens are aerified to ensure the turfgrass plant has plenty of oxygen.
